I currently teach about 2/3 of full time time at San Jose State University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The rest of my time is spent consulting in forensic engineering, structural design and code compliance. I also provide testing and instrumentation services.

I have been retained as an expert or consultant on approximately 800 cases. In about half of these cases I have been retained on behalf of the plaintiff and about half for the defendant.

I have testified in court more than 25 times. I have testified in regard to slip and fall accidents, trip and fall accidents, automobile accident reconstruction, construction defects, structural design defects, et cetera. I have testified in Santa Clara, Alameda, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Monterey and San Benito County Superior Courts.

State law requires licensed engineers to have a written contract with new clients. My standard contract requires a retainer. I will use the retainer to compensate for my time until it is expended and will invoice monthly after that time. When the file is closed, the remaining portion of the retainer, if any, will be refunded.
